I'm reciting this from memory, not having seen the movie for a few weeks. If I'm way off, I'll amend tomorrow after I've had a chance to see it again.
INDY: Is there anything on it about the length of the staff?
IMAM: Six kaddam high...
SALLAH: About seventy-two inches.*
IMAM: Wait! And on the other side it says, "Take back one
kaddam to honor the Hebrew god whose ark this is."
*There we have it: Divide 72 inches by 6 kaddam and you get 12. 1 kaddam is "about" 12 inches. If we take out 1 kaddam (12 inches) we get 60 inches, or 5 feet. If, as our esteemed colleague avers, Indy is not standing on a step but his feet are at the same level as the base of the staff, that means that Indiana Jones is a short little guy, judging by where his head is in relation to the top of the staff. I wonder if that's why our esteemed colleague calls himself "Indiana Shorty?"
