Overlooked oddity, bit of triva....

When Indy encounters Belloq in the bar in Cairo did anyone else happen to take notice of exactly what Belloq was doing? Smoking Opium. You only see him doing it briefly in the background of the scene as Indy stares around confused for a moment before seeing him. The large glass apparatus on his table from which he is inhaling via a hose with a brass tip is an Opium pipe. Believe it or not, Opium was readily available to the public in this fashion throughout the 20's and 30's. It was as accessible as beer nuts are to us today. So the next time you watch "Raiders" and think that his notion of using the Ark to 'speak to God' seems hoky, keep in mind that he was high when he said it.
