In Reply to: Also, I read at the Pecard site that if a new lamb jacket will be exposed to snow, that the classic dressing [that I purchased] is a good bet? Is Lexol still better for new lamb in this area? [NM] posted by Aaron on October 10, 2000 at 22:47:48:
I'm the one who wrote the FAQ on the Pecards and Lexol comparisons at IndyGear, based on MY experiences. I attempted to make clear, but apparently didn't, is that MY experiences aren't the last word by any means. I'm located in south central Tennessee. We rejoice any time we get to see snow down here. We're mainly concerned with rain and heat. Based on my location and what I have to deal with, the FAQ is what I recommend. Based on where you are and what you're involved with, the standard Pecards may indeed work perfectly for your lambskin. I just found it took a long long time to soak into the surface. It will eventually soak in, but tends to leave the surface feeling just a tad waxy to the touch, but that's in my location. In a colder climate, snow related area, it may work perfectly as a snow blocker on your new jacket. Try it out! Give us a report as to what YOU find out. Regardless, Pecards is never a bad bet on anything made from leather. It's a great investment, and once used on shoes or anything you lan to use outdoors made of leather, you'll find you'll never use anything else, except maybe Lexol or the new Pecards "Motorcycle leather lotion" that is a close comparison to the Lexol. Don't cancel your Pecard's order. It's money well spent. Regards. Michaelson
: : Okay, when I decided to get into this crazy world of Indy gear collecting, I prayed and I prayed that I wouldn't make one of "those" mistakes that everybody else seems to have just one of. You know, some people sit on their hats, others slam their jackets in car doors...that sort of thing. But I was gonna simply get the gear, and be perfect. Ha.
: : I made the fatal mistake of not re-checking Indy gear when I was going to purchase what I thought was the best leather dressing for my in-production Flight Suits jacket [in new lambskin]. Well, I trusted my shaky memory and purchased a big ol' tub [I mean the $22 one] of Pecard's.
: : I just now headed over to Indygear to waste some time [er, not that the site is a waste in any sense], and what did I suddenly rediscover? Lexol is the recommended product for new lambskin products! D'oh!
: : My question to you leather junkies is, can I salvage the situation with the Pecard's that is already on its way, or see if I can get a refund and spring for the Lexol? Could the Pecard's fare better on this new Flight Suits jacket than on the Wested? Does anybody wanna swap leather dressings with me?
: : I'm such an idiot...
