You might want to obtain a Browning Hi-Power. They're reliable as a stone, accurate, popular (easy to get parts in the unlikely chance it breaks), and mine is perfectly comfortable under my pillow every night, camping or not. Further, they are single-action only, meaning that every shot is triggered identically, unlike a double-action/single-action "wondernine," making for tighter groupings of your shots. When I decided to purchase a handgun for self defense, I thought a lot about what was available and tried out a lot of pistols before settling on the Hi-Power. Indiana Jones factored not at all into my decision. Rather, I reasoned that if it was good enough for the SAS it was likely at least good enough for me.
