From what I understand, most leather garments are constructed of chrome tanned leather due the the desirable traits of this material. It supposedly takes longer to wear out as opposed to veg tanned, and has more elasticity to it. Or so the propaganda goes. Veg tanned leather on the other hand stands up to water better, and doesn't have the "stretch" that the chrome tanned does. Chrome tanning can be accompished in one day, while veg tanning can take weeks, or even months. Needless to say, chrome tanned leather is cheaper to buy for the jacket makers. Chrome tanned leather also has a stronger odor that persists. Going by the way my 9 month old wested smells, there os little doubt that Peter follows the herd and uses the chrome tanned.
