Patterson,
I've been a fan of flight jackets since having become a Navy pilot in '90. The M-422A was never an Army Air Corps flying jacket. But it sounds like your friend may know that already. The confusion comes from the Flying Tigers AVG pilots requistitioning the M-422A for their own use. Many survived and brought those jackets back with them. Numerous commercial jacket companies claim the A-2 to be the exclusive jacket of the AVG, but numerous photos of the group in China clearly disprove this.
The M-422A is my favorite. The seal brown goatskin, mouton wool collar and crimson lining make this jacket irresistable to me. I already have two issue G-1s that Uncle Sam have given me over the years. The M-422A would round out that collection nicely.
My opinion, the Real McCoy's M-422A is the one I'm going to get.
