If a trip to a local museum isn't practical, maybe some kind of archaeology game... Let them all dig a nice pit in the yard...
You could first bury or hide different objects in various outdoorsy locations; integrate these thematically somehow, so that they each provide a clue to a greater treasure... maybe for a six-year old you could use the first letters in the names of each of the objects to spell out the final clue leading to the prize.
This prize should probably NOT be some kind of object, but rather some sort of idea or concept embodied ... maybe something suggestive or how much his mom loves him, and how he will remember this party as one of his first big adventures.
Take lots of pictures so you can show them to his dates in 8 or 10 years... teens love that!
