Good question, and the same one I had when they initially told us $428. As some may recall, I was expecting this to come in about $100 cheaper. The explaination was in both the materials and the construction. When putting the material specs together on this jacket, FS chose to pick elements from their historically accurate A2 and G1 lines that had performed best over the years. The result is the best liner, the best zippers, the best skins, yadda, yadda, yadda...

On construction? Well, reproducing the gussets and bi-swing pleat as represented on the original in a manner that makes them fully functional working parts of the jacket, rather than "designer details" requires more hands-on attention to detail. Remember, when the A2 became the standard back in the 1940's, one of the considerations was it was cheaper to make then it's predicessors. I guess my point is - the construction of a working jacket takes a bit mor time. I believe the metric they gave me was that this jacket takes 1.5-2 full days for one of their people to take from cutting the skins to having a finished jacket. An A2, on the other hand takes about 1 day.

Hey, I just got off the phone with Dave Marshall. Apparently a few smaller sizes have shipped, and my deerskin is ready to cut in the next day or so. Arrgghh! The anticipation is killing me!

Cheers!
