I used to ask this now and again around here, but let's face it: The same reason some people don't like YIJC is the same reason I don't care for the James Bond franchise. It's all based on personal preferences. I agree; YIJC was (to quote Woodrow Wilson's reaction to Birth of a Nation) "like writing history with a lightning bolt." Indy interacted with all sorts of important, if not famous, historical people, and that interaction was fascinating to me. But some people think it is a bit of a stretch in credibility to believe that one single man could meet all of the important people of the early 20th century.
I used to complain about the seeming lack of respect accorded to YIJC, but I don't anymore. We're all free to pick and choose which parts of Indy's "life" we prefer best.

PS How do you think Old Indy lost his eye? My theory involves a band saw and Indy's refusal to wear proper safety goggles.
