I'm an archaeologist currently at the nadir of "some time off" between MA and PhD.
Until I get back to school, I'm working at a small cultural resources consulting firm in the northwest US, and have just spilled a sheaf of papers from my desk onto the floor...
Occasionally I get to dig some deep holes into some cool ancient deposits, but at the moment much of my time is spent guiding public agency and private clients through a quagmire of regulations...
The coolest things I've found in the ground have ranged from human bones to neat ceramic doodads; nothing golden, but found some 1,000 year old copper beads once.
I look absolutely ridiculous in almost any kind of hat.
As for other Indygear-type choices, I have only two words to say: "GORE" "TEX"!
