: Yeah I live in Minnesota, so winter lasts about 6 months every year. Well today was the first time I wore my Aldens outside, and I was dissappointed. I slipped around like Kramer on rollerskates. Now I know it was a little icy out, but I was out earlier with tennis shoes on and had no problems at all. I realize there's no tread on the soles of Aldens at all, but how in the hell do business men walk around in smooth-bottomed shoes?

Hi Austin,
I live in Northeast Ohio (our winters aren't as bad as MN, but
we do get our share of snow and ice) and I wear my Aldens all
winter. However, I had the original soles and heels replaced
(because I wore them out) with a black rubber soles and heels
with treads... they work about as well as any other treaded
shoe or boot. Go to a local shoe repair shop and ask them
(don't let them glue the soles... there are soles that can be
sewn). By the way, I had the same slipping problem with the
original soles and heels.
Hope this helps.
