The reason is because the brown band is the common size on most hats that I have owned, and the size on the HJ fedora. The other reason is because it is difficult to get a good long Raiders pinch with the wider sweatband, for obvious reasons. To top it off I don't care for the color of the wide sweatband, a tan if you will. Regards, Fedora
