machine vs hand-stitched

Hand-stitched is not always better than machine stitched -- often the only way to tell them apart is that hand stitches are never exactly even -- you can see that some are closer together, etc -- while machine stiches are evenly spaced. Someone doing a good job with a machine, as the folks at Wested and US Wings do, will be superior in many respects to hand-stitched. The hard part with a machine is to keep the stitches straight and evenly spaced from the edge of whatever you're sewing.
