Hey, gang
Someone mentioned earlier a scene from crusade filmed in Texas. I can give some specifics.
The Final "Ride into the sunset" was filmed about 20 miles north of Amarillo. My father and I were headed toward Amarillo on a Tuesday late afternoon from Pampa,TX, when we spotted a lone Paramount trailertruck by the side of the road. The driver was standing by the road, drinking a coke and listening to a transmittor radio.
Well, we're nosy, so we stopped, asking the driver if he was okay, needed help, and if not, what he was doing out in the middle of the flattest stretch of Nowhere.
His response was..
"Well, I can't say anything, but since we're probably gonna wrap this up tonight, let's just say that Steve needed a top-notch sunset."
My Dad and I came unglued "Steve? Steven Spielberg??"
The driver waggled his eyebrows in a knowing way, then thanked us for checking on him.
When Dad and I attended the opening of Crusade, rumors of a scene near Amarillo were already all over the Panhandle. When Dad and I saw the final scene, we figured we had been standing about a quarter of a mile off-screen to the left when the sun was setting.
That was a great feeling.
