I know a place or two in Southern Virginia (mostly colonial and Civil War sites), but Northern Virginia is a whole 'nother country. Most local tourism boards can usually point you in the right direction, though. And don't always assume you'll be welcomed at a house of God. I was once chased out of a churchyard in Isle of Wight. All I wanted to do was look at the graves! That's all I wanted to do!
