Question for jacket experts: what causes some leather jackets to "squeak"?

Is it mainly leather stiffness, or are there other factors? My horsehide jacket is the stiffest leather jacket I own, and it's the only one that really squeaks.

• Well long ago we used to think squeaks in leather jackets were caused by evil spirits living in the leather..Silly I know....but now with modern alchemy we know that squeakiness of leather is caused by small dwarves living in the pockets of leather jackets.   • I believe these are the same dwarves (or gnomes, or gremlins) that hide in the ceilings of most office buildings, and then come out at night and screw up people's computers, so they have to call the help desk the next morning.
