I'm no ship expert, and I don't know a whole lot about docking procedure. But I've seen some monster ore boats sitting in mere feet of water. I think it's plausible that a ship could be sitting in very shallow water, making its propeller visible. This would probably mean that the boat's bottomed out, but it's concievable.

Who knows what they do before that scrap a ship. They've gotta ground it somehow, right?
