: He may have a point. Speilberg has been known to inflect personal views into his work in cryptic ways. Consider this: when Indy's life seems to depend on the truck's hood ornament, it snaps off. The truck was a Mercedes. Was it just a dramatic point in an action sequence or maybe, in a slight way, a jab at German craftsmanship? After all, it was the only vehicle in the film with which they went out of the way to declare the make. It didn't HAVE to be a Mercedes.....
