I just did my Fed and what I did was run the chalk mark past the marker lines to a natural blend point as the brim continued to curve around. It wound up being only about 1 inch past designated points.
What gets cut off at these points is gradually decreased from 1/8" to nothing.

A little sand paper takes care of the rest.
