Jake, I think we were fortunate in that 1980-1988 had an inordinate proportion of excellent movies. Many film critics will agree that the worst periods for movies have been from about 1960-1970 and 1995-the present. And of those two periods, the 1960's are generally regarded as being the absolute low point for cinema, far worse than what we're getting now. (strangely enough, big budget disaster thrillers were one of the prime culprits.)

I'm a sucker for model f/x, I would say they are better, at least right now. I never saw the death star and thought "fake".
