I was damn serious! You can sandblast almost any material in order to roughen its surface so that it will accept paint. And as I've said before, maybe a dye would be a better choice as it would permeates the straw instead of sitting as a layer on top. What kind of dye might work I do not know.

: Paint doesn't adhere well to the waxy grass- each of the 2,000 quarter to half inch bits must be individualy sanded. Anyone who wants one would have to sand and color it themselves! So I'm sanding a few bits a day and colorng them with a brown permanant marker- It will be a while....
