Jacket Question... You there, Patterson?

This one's for you jacket experts. I'm having the sleeves on my Raiders Wested shortened a bit by a seamstress that specializes in leather, but that ain't the problem. I'm a pretty thin guy and to get a good 'n nice fit with the jacket I have to pull the leather straps on the sides pretty darn tight... problem is it leaves tons of slack, and I don't like the way all that extra strap hangs out the way it does. I wan't to see if the seamstress could shorten the straps for me, too, but I was curious what the most authentic length for the side straps is. When totally pulled outta the d-rings and straightened out they measure exactly 8 inches. Even if this is accurate to the original (I have no clue what the measurement is) I still might have 'em shortened so they don't stick out as far, but I was just curious. Hope to hear from ya'll.
