I think it's likely to have something to do with Micah's theory, but who knows, Tomb Raider could be a factor as well. Who knows what the hell goes through the mind of a studio exec? Maybe they're trying to hedge their bets with how much to commit to Indy 4 (or if the rumour was true Indy 5 as well), since early buzz indicates some historic numbers involved.

Whatever the case, there are probably several factors involved- perhaps it's a studio thing as well, with Dreamworks, etc.

All I can say is that this better not turn out to be the Lewis-Tyson of the film world, with politics, egos, and dollar signs derailing it.
