: I'm not 100% sure, but I think you are referring to a cut scene where the three heroes are watching as the villains dynamite to gain admittance to the secret canyon of the crescent moon.

That's what I thought, but if the place is a canyon, why is the explosion on a hill? I noticed that book was replete with cut scenes, anyway, such as a scene with Indy and Donovan's henchmen, and with Indy and Henry walking through the streets of Iskenderun, Indy not looking too happy.
