Hiking boots should be selected for the surface on which you will be walking. Aldens are probably perfect for some surfaces. I hike some on mountain tops where there is no dirt to wash down between the rocks. This makes for sore feet if the soles of the boots flex much. A very stiff sole is better, even though it is not as comfortable on soft ground. Also, the tread makes a difference.
