They're running this rumour over at comingsoon.net- I believe it's from the same source. I agree that we shouldn't worry too much. It IS from a gossip column, and did anyone really expect Indy 4 to come out in 2002- Ford included? The agreement snafu may mean they can't SIGN a writer, but I doubt they're really without a script.
