Hrothgar is a character in "Beowulf" who embodies, some scholars argue, Christian elements in this early English text. Hrothgar cautions Beowulf against undeserved pride and selfishness, stressing that a rightful king will always show humility before god, compassion for fellow human beings, and grace, etc. etc.
