As for academic field projects I really think that the only way forward for archaeology is to become involved in interdisciplinary and even transdisciplinary projects. I don't think that archaeology can stand alone anymore and it really needs to prove its worth. This can be done by intergrating archaeological projects with conservation projects generating a more holistic understanding of the area being studied (for example).... and possibly tying in the arhcaeological material to the present. Easier said than done, however. Archaeology really needs a make-over.
