Newbie Suggestions about MB format

Just out of curiosity, why is this message board still in the old "threaded" format? I prefer being able to view responses at once, in a "flat" format, or at least having the option of a flat format.

Also, there seems to be lots of people here. How about a registration process so that there is a password to post under your name, and you can't be impersonated or something?
