Last Crusade Bloopers?

I was watching "Last Crusade" the other night and I was puzzled by the scene where Indy embarks on the second challenge in the Grail Temple.

As you know he steps on the "J" when he should have stepped on the "I." This sends him through the floor and to live he hangs on to the ledge in front of him.

Now I am wondering, "What's he holding on to?"

Most likely wouldn't the ledge also be constructed of fall-away material? When he is hanging over the pit, you see how pillars are supporting the letters in Jehova. But I see nothing supporting the tiles that Indy is hanging onto.

I always wondered about this one.

Also, for the leap from the lion's head, I understand that the brigde was invisible due to an optical illusion. But how can someone not see the bridge in front of their own feet?
