: I think it was a combination of the two. Movements that may look jerky on screen, seemed smooth to Ford as he snapped the whip. Try having someone videotape you cracking your whip. But they probably did enhance the sound when a crack was not pulled off.

I have a 10 foot Mark Allen whip and it really produces some amazing cracks. They sound just like raiders to me. I'm sure I probably don't look the smoothest when I do it!
