My Mark Allen 10 footer was fine out of the box, but I don't have a David Morgan to compare it too. I did rub Pecards on it right away, and do it anytime it seems to get dry.

I will say that it cracked easily right out of the box. Of course, all I had to compare it too was a 12 foot latigo swivel handled whip(piece of crap). I take it out every few days during the summer. Don't get to use it much during the winter, as I don't like to get the whip wet from the lawn. Seems to hold up well. I have had it about two years now.
