David Morgan whip's Natural Tan color: Why doesn't it match Raiders whip color?

The Natural Tan color of the David Morgan Bullwhip appears lighter than the whips used in Raiders. I think that was the only color offered other than the white or black special orders. Has he changed the leather color recently or since the film? Is there a darker "brown" color one can order? Does it ever naturally darken to the Raiders color? Is there some artificial way of darkening it without damaging it?
