A fellow Sherlockian, eh? I'd suggest starting off with the Nicholas Meyer stuff; the Seven Per Cent Solution is pretty good. A fantastic Holmes story was The Whitechapel Horror. I don't recall the author, sad to say, but it's a great novel about Holmes and Watson trying to unmask Jack the Ripper. I've found that most non-Doyle stories are pretty bad; most have done their research on Victorian London, but not on the character of Sherlock Holmes himself. You might want to hunt up a copy of The Encyclopedia Sherlockiana by Matthew Bunson; It's a great reference on the Great Detective.
