I hate to give you a simple answer, and without getting philosophical, but.... Snakes! I hate 'em. I don't mind bugs (spiders, scorpions, etc...), but I do not like snakes! In fact, here is a "quick" story:

I was out in California recently (Hat Creek, CA) fishing. Well, I was sitting on a large boulder enjoying the cool of the morning and trout fishing. I had already gotten a nice Brook Trout and was sitting there admiring creation when.... I felt something nudge me on my right hip. Now, the creek is to my left (a small 3ft. drop from the boulder I was on) and the boulder was shaped such that it rose high above behind me. To my right it tapered off to dirt and a trail. Well, after feeling something nudge at my side I took a quick glance down to see what it was. It was a Rattlesnake about 3-31/2 feet long! He had just brushed up against me and began to turn back on me.
From this point on it was like a 3 Stooges movie: Ignoring my fishing line, which was still in the water, I used the butt end of my rod to make an attempt to get him going in another direction while simultaneously jumping 2 feet in the air. Keep in mind, I am wearing my Fedora (of course), fishing vest, and all the other junk that goes along with fishing. The snake was not impressed with my acrobatic abilities apparently. He started rattling while I was about to perform a triple back flip into the icy cold creek. By the grace of God I was able to administer, what I believed to be, a carefully planned strike with my fishing rod upon my agressor ( I would have used my whip, but I hadn't purchased one yet :-) But, to the father and son fishing from the other side of the bank it apparently looked only as if I was having an epileptic seizure. Well, I finally chased him away and called it a day. And that is just ONE reason I DO NOT LIKE SNAKES!

Sorry for the long post. I guess my answer wasn't so simple was it? I get these inspirational moments every now and then. :-)

Regards,
Indiana Pete
