But who the hell wants to see that as the final Indy film? Haven't we had enough of Indy prior to Raiders? We've already had a television series and a line of novels to speculate about that time of Indy's life.

What else could we possibly need to know about the backstory of Indy and Marion that wasn't expressed in the film? What do you need to see that you don't already know about the situation? Raiders was never intended as a movie about deep character development- to go back now and try to make up something would definitely be a mistake.
