I think the "haunted house movie" idea was basically just the opening to the Monkey King story. Anyway, Lucas still got his wish for a scarier tone with the Temple of Doom.

I doubt if any of the Monkey King stuff will be used, although it would be interesting to see them use an African locale in the film. One thing I wouldn't be surprised to see re-surface is the motorcycle chase along the Great Wall of China. I think they considered using that for both Raiders and Temple, didn't they?

Overall, I think it will be all new, considering they have several scripts to borrow from this time around.
