Okay, I'm sorry if this is old news, but I don't recall any posts about it (and a quick scan didn't turn up any to my eye).

AMC replayed Raiders again tonight, but it's actually their first airing I've watched of it. It was hosted by Jill(?) Bernstein (Premiere) and Karen Allen. I'm not sure if they've done this everytime- although I know the same guy keeps hosting Temple, (staring blankly into the camera for a few seconds at the end of his little epilogue speech).

Since they only have one commercial break, there were only three segments, and while most of it was old news, it was still interesting.

Anyway, Karen discussed why she chose the part (she loved the introduction of Marion- the drinking scene in Nepal), and talked about how the script was so secret that the courier sat in the room, waiting for her to finish.

She also talked about the infamous scene where Spielberg threw a snake at her. I had actually never heard the entire story: One of the pythons got the cobra pissed one day, so the cobra bit it and the python promptly died. Spielberg then kept the dead python on ice, and that's the snake that is dropped around Marion's neck in the Well of Souls. Her quick reaction to throw it free and her pissed-off stare are not just good acting. (She also revealed that the rapidly decomposing body left quite a bit of slime on her. Do with that what you will.)

The break immediately preceded what Karen named as her favorite scene: Marion and Belloq's dinner scene. She remembers it so fondly because much of it was improvised. (Belloq's outburst of laughter when Marions pulls the knife was one of Paul Freeman's ideas.)

The epilogue was pretty interesting, as she was asked about the upcoming Indy 4, and her rumoured involvement. She said her usual reply that she really doesn't know anything about it, but would be happy to do it.

She got a little mixed-up discussing the chronology of the three films, saying how they actually went backwards in time after Raiders, so her character was never really meant to be included in them. (She remembered Raiders as being set "in like, 1941", and then the other two in the 1930's.)

But what can you do? It's Karen Allen. Hey, she did remember that Temple was a prequel, and that's likely the only one she kept an eye on.
