Sankara

I have been following closely the discussion about the Ark in the movie. I think that the treatment of the Grail was a little questionable, but that is neither here nor there.
However, in all of the mythology I have read (and admitedly, I haven't read a lot of early Indian, Vedic or Hindu mythology) I have never come across a reference to the legend described by Indy in ToD. Is there really a legend of Sankara the prophet, and his five sacred stone for fighting evil?
