The stone IS on his dead body. The crushed stones were the ones S. used to enter the caves. NM

In all the hints pages on the net, they say Sternhart has the stone on his dead body. But in mine, when I go down the lift to where he is, it says that one of the stones has been crushed under the lift. Is this the third stone i'm looking for? I can't have broken my only way of progressing, can I? I didn't think you could do that. Can anyone help me!
