Talked today to Joe Peters about why his hats are so stiff. He told me that the hats are soaked in a compound that stiffens the hat to the "bullet proof" stiffness. He said he does this in order to make the hat more durable and better for rain wear (actually for all types of weather pretty much). We also talked about the HJ fedora. Though he has never seen one himself, Joe notes that that hat seems very soft to him when viewing the movies and from what he hears from others. He thinks the HJ is one you use for display and dressing up purposes while his is more of an everyday wear one which will last.
Very nice man to talk with, and lets his work and his customers do his talking for him. Along with Cueball I think this hat is probably the better of the Indy hats. Thanks for all of your help, I'm off to buy me a hat.
