Actually, the first movie to get the PG-13 rating by the MPAA was Red Dawn satrring Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson. It came out on August 10, 1984, just 3 months after Temple of Doom's 5/23 debut.
: : 1) I saw in the interview with Spielberg that TOD was made, but needed a rating between R and PG, thus he went and got PG-13, just for this movie. Problem is, the tape AND cover both rate it as PG, what gives?
: You are correct in stating the Steven Spielberg brought about the PG-13 rating. It was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom that brought about the chnage in the rating boards. It took a while to get the rating approved by the rating board people, and Speilberg did cut some scenes from TOD, and thusly it was given the PG rating; as the PG-13 rating was now in the works. It did not get the PG-13 rating because the rating still did not exist at the time.
