I've owned six Indy fedoras over the years, and the only one I have had that was affected by the sun over time was a very inaccurate Disney fedora that turned green, but I think that is bad dye and cheap felt.
I have a Stetson Indy that I took to the Cannes Film Festival over the summer and it was out in the hot sun everyday for a month. It didn't fade at all (unfortunately, b/c it's too dark anyway). I am not sure about Peter Bros or HJ hats. I would assume that their quality will aid in their durability against the elements.
I can't confirm this of course.
