As a matter of fact, that is when Holmes started swinging his riding crop. I guess he hated snakes too...(wink wink) From what I remember of my Sherlock Holmes obsession back in college, Sidney Paget wasn't the original choice to be the illustrator; it was supposed to be his brother. As a tribute, he patterned drawings of Holmes after his brother, so both of them could take the credit.
